The concrete structures for Turku Music Hall Fuuga have been completed. The project is one of the most significant public buildings in the history of its constructor. Although the project was challenging, it was successfully completed thanks to precise project management and skilled personnel.
Our part in the Turku Music Hall Fuuga project was completed on June 27, 2025. This beautiful landmark, which is being built on the Turku riverbank and has received international media attention, has been completed in terms of its concrete structures. The project is one of the most significant public buildings in our history. Our client for the work was Hartela Länsi-Suomi Oy. We are grateful to Hartela and the City of Turku for giving us the opportunity to be involved in the construction of this gem in Turku. Thank you for the trust, and we hope our cooperation will continue!
In the project, we executed the concrete frames for both the concert and rehearsal halls, as well as other complementary structures around the buildings, mainly using cast-in-place concrete. The frames were completed on schedule in the spring of 2025, and complementary structures were finalized in early summer.
The project was challenging and precisely for that reason, very interesting for the builder, with its curved shapes and acoustic details. Work began in the middle of winter at the end of 2023. The following winter was harsh and lasted well into spring. In contrast, the summer of 2024 was historically long and hot. The high walls (approx. +35 m above sea level) also didn't make things easy—strong winds completely interrupted the lifting of molds, elements, scaffolding, and rebar on several days. Thus, extreme conditions were not avoided in this project either. Partly due to this, the rather tight schedule, and logistical challenges, we worked practically around the clock for half of the contract time. In total, approximately 30,000 m2 of formwork was done, about 7,000 m3 of concrete was poured, 1,500,000 kg of rebar was tied, and over 1,000 elements were installed.
There wasn't a single dull day on the project. However, major blunders were avoided thanks to our precise project management, skilled personnel, and competent partners. Additionally, we want to thank A-Insinöörit Oy, which was responsible for the structural design of the site. Developing the plans on the fly on-site and solving problem areas together with Markus Puranen from A-Insinöörit was invaluable and created the prerequisites for success in the project. We understand that there were challenges in the structural design as well, due to the requirements and complexity of the site. There is strength in cooperation, and that is one of our key values.
